বর্তমান সরকারের অধীনে বিএনপি আর কোনো নির্বাচনে অংশগ্রহণ করবে না, এমন সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ করেছে দলটি। দলের এই সিদ্ধান্ত উপেক্ষা করে গাজীপুর সিটি করপোরেশন নির্বাচনে বিএনপির ২৯ নেতা কাউন্সিলর পদে অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন। তাঁদের সবাইকে আজীবন বহিষ্কার করেছে বিএনপি। মঙ্গলবার দলটির জ্যেষ্ঠ যুগ্ম মহাসচিব রুহুল কবির রিজভী স্বাক্ষরিত এক পত্রের মাধ্যমে এ সিদ্ধান্ত জানানো হয়।
